Three Studies in Black and White

Legs - Study in Gray, White and Black

Clark - Study in Light and Shadow

Betsy - Study in Feline Annoyance

One Thing Leads to Another, or, Excuses, Excuses.

First, I have to state, I originally started this blog for not much more than my own amusement, and perhaps that of the family and some friends. I figured I'd go to Coney Island a few times during the summer, take some pictures, and report on what I saw.

I really intended to keep at it, but after my last entry I went to Canada for a week, then it rained. I had two ophthalmologist appointments after that, then I was putting together all the artwork for the coffee mugs and the t shirts, and then the next two weekends we were in Vermont; this past one with the in-laws. Oh, and there's that other blog that I actually made a public commitment to, The Time Machine, which needs weekly updating. And of course the new Harry Potter came out.

But unknown to me until recently, I had readers other than the aforementioned family and friends (and a few Commenters as well). In between my posting about Shoot the Freak and confessing to having never been on the Cyclone, this blog was mentioned by both Kinetic Carnival and The Gowanus Lounge.

I'm taking the in-laws to JFK tomorrow. The weather report isn't good, but I may continue along the Belt after leaving them with JetBlue.

(Postscript: The weather wasn't good)

A Confession...

I have to own up to this, out loud and in public: I've never been on the Cyclone. Not that I have anything against roller coasters, nothing of the sort. I love roller coasters. In fact, the last time I was at Disney World I made a special early-morning trek to get an extra run on Space Mountain before coming back to New York. Of course, the last time I was at Disney World was fourteen years ago, and it was the last time I was on a roller coaster, for that matter. And the last time I was on a roller coaster before that was also on Space Mountain, but in Disneyland. In, let's see..1980. Okay, so I haven't been on a roller coaster in a while.

But I will get on the Cyclone this summer, and I may even get on the Wonder Wheel, the other major Coney Island icon that I've managed to miss out on for my forty-seven years....

Shooting the Freak

July 2007

Despite the signs, despite the crowds, and despite the barker's pleas, very few people actually step up and
do shoot the freak. Mostly, it seems, they stand around hoping someone else will pony up the three bucks for five paintballs.

Could it be because, after being here for four years already, there still aren't any prizes?
